Music Inspired by Life’s Stories
As a prolific songwriter, Hanson has been able to view people’s stories from a unique front row seat: his continuing medical practice. From delivering hundreds of babies, doing house calls, and treating his patients from cradle to grave, he has come to know the personal heartbreaks, joys, and dramas that touch real peoples’ lives. From nuggets of this rich trove he has been inspired to create unique songs, each with its own story line, and each with its own musical style… (Country, Blues, Rock, Pop, Reggae). His early inspirations in Toronto came from Gordon Lightfoot, and his guitar skills were honed by Lightfoot’s side-men Red Shea and Terry Clements.
He was also influenced by the late Ronnie Hawkins, his long standing friend (and patient) who was surrounded by the greats of music at each of his live performances.
His friendship with John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has extended to over three decades, leading to many joint recording sessions and introductions to other great talents, including on the stage of the Grand Old Opry and the Ryman Theater in Nashville.

Peter G. Hanson, M.D. has a unique and diverse background.
After graduating from the University of Toronto School of Medicine in 1971, he started General Practice, delivering hundreds of babies, treating patients in the Emergency Department as well as on house calls, and looking after all age groups from cradle to grave. He served as team doctor with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football league, and after moving to Denver Colorado, was a consultant doctor to the NFL’s Denver Broncos, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings, as well as the Colorado Rapids of the MLS. He has been a pioneer in treating pain without using drugs, both with acupuncture, IMS, and now his own technique of trigger point injections with micro-dissection, using no cortisone. He has long been a proponent of finding root causes of illness and injury, helping each patient make good, informed choices.
In 1986, Dr. Hanson wrote “The Joy of Stress”, which became Canada’s number one best-seller. It sold millions of copies in the US, and around the world (in over 20 languages). He’s made hundreds of appearances on television and radio on three continents. In addition to writing a nationally syndicated newspaper column, his daily radio feature was popular from coast to coast.
Hanson’s public speaking skills surfaced early, when he was performing daily comedy monologues on live television at the age of 14. As an adult, he has entertained hundreds of live audiences as a key-note speaker. In 2014, Dr. Hanson returned to his native British Columbia, where he is specializing in drug-free pain management.
